New York City has a lot of museums. But if you don’t want to spend your time in one of those stuffy ones where if you cough you can hear it echoing through the building for the next five minutes, you might want to give the Brooklyn Museum a try. It’s actually one of the oldest museums in the country, but this is a museum that has its finger on the pulse of what’s happening in the city right now.
One of its many plus points is that it manages to find new and exciting undiscovered artists to feature, a great example of this is their recent Raw/Cooked exhibit from some Brooklyn-based newcomers. Also not to be missed is their excellent Egyptian display featuring a mummy chamber and outdoor sculpture garden. There is no set price for admission, visitors to the museum may pay what they wish, and it’s definitely worth spending a few hours wandering around this beautiful old building.
