Once a 1910 book The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux inspired Andrew Lloyd Webber & Co for a same-named musical three decades ago, the audience does not seem to lose interest towards it. The 1986 premiere was wrapped in electronic rock sound and ambience actual those days, yet fading of that wave meant nothing for the popularity of the musical. It gave life to a movie of the same title starring Julian Sands and Asia Argento and went through an impressive figure of about 10,500 performances.

The story is a lucky and skillful combination of a few archetypical plots: a revengeful ghost hiding from people but secretly influencing them; a young gifted orphan led to success by mysterious power; a love affair between a mortal human and a supernatural creature; theatre as a haunted house. The new staging wraps it all into warmer orchestrations and modernized visual effects. And just wait for that chandelier...
